With the cooler weather on its way, egg production will slow and sometimes even stop. One way to minimise temperature related egg production problems is to ensure your chook house gets plenty of winter sun but stays cool in summer. To achieve this, make sure that the chook house is facing north so that the low winter sun shines into the pen for as much of the day as possible. In summer, the benefits from having a large preferably deciduous tree next to the pen will protect it from the overhead summer sun. This way the chooks are kept at a fairly even temperature which will keep them laying happily all year.
